History at a glance

1. 713 CE
   The date of an inscription naming the Mori rulers. One source builds the fort's chronology from it.
2. 7th-12th centuries
   The fort passes through the Moris, Pratiharas, Paramaras and Solankis before the Guhilots and Sisodias.
3. 1303
   Alauddin Khilji besieges the fort during the reign of Rawal Ratan Singh. The first jauhar follows.
4. 1336
   One source includes 1336 in the fort's essential chronology and I do not know what it refers to.
5. 1440-1448
   Rana Kumbha raises the Vijay Stambha, nine storeys and about 37 m, to commemorate his victory over Sultan Mahmud Khalji of Malwa.
6. 1528
   Rana Sanga dies at the battle of Khanua.
7. 1534-35
   Bahadur Shah of Gujarat assaults the fort. Rani Karnavati leads the second jauhar.
8. 1567-1568
   Akbar takes the fort. The third jauhar follows.
9. After 1568
   The capital of Mewar moves to Udaipur.
10. 1818 and 1956
    Two further dates in the source's chronology that I cannot account for.
11. 2013
    Inscribed as a component of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan, criteria (ii) and (iii), reference 247, 37th session.
