Planned Cities of India
Cities deliberately designed as a whole, not grown organically — from Jaipur's 1727 Vastu grid to Chandigarh's Corbusier plan.
A curated selection, not an official or closed list — either traditions vary on the full set of sites, or this is an editorial grouping rather than a traditional one.
Significance & tradition
A heritage circuit built on urban planning rather than religion — a framing this app's current circuit set doesn't otherwise have, even though three of its own City Packs (Jaipur, Madurai, Khajuraho-adjacent research) documented exactly why each city is planned rather than organic.
History
Spans three very different planning logics and eras: Jaipur's 1727 Shilpa-Shastra grid, Madurai's temple-centred concentric mada streets (centuries older), and Chandigarh's mid-20th-century Corbusier modernism.
How this list was compiled
Not exhaustive — a curated grouping of India's most legible planned cities.
