Sun Temples of India
Major temples dedicated to Surya, the sun god, spanning Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Kashmir and Tamil Nadu.
A curated selection, not an official or closed list — either traditions vary on the full set of sites, or this is an editorial grouping rather than a traditional one.
Significance & tradition
Links destinations across four states through a single deity rather than a shared region — Konark and Khajuraho, in particular, hold major Surya shrines but neither page currently mentions the other.
History
Sun-temple architecture peaked between the 8th and 13th centuries CE; Konark and Modhera are the best-known survivors of a once-wider tradition.
