Daman's climate is characterized by hot and dry summers, with temperatures soaring during the peak summer months, while the winters are mild and pleasant, with a gentle breeze. The city experiences a distinct monsoon season from June to September, bringing much-needed rainfall and relief from the scorching heat.

Getting there & around

• Air — The UT government's own page states the nearest railhead is VAPI, about 12 km away, on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Western Railway route, about 170 km from Mumbai and 90 km from Surat. Nearest airports Mumbai at 170 km and Surat at 90 km. Daman has no railway station - your transport block says it is 'connected to major cities like Mumbai and Vadodara' by rail.

Before you go

• The two forts are on opposite banks of the Daman Ganga
• connected by a footbridge - plan them together. Nariyal Poornima in August is the local festival worth timing for. And the nearest station is Vapi
• not Daman.
