Hampi's climate is characterized by hot and dry summers, with temperatures soaring during the peak summer months, while the monsoon season brings moderate rainfall from July to September, bringing relief from the heat. Winters are generally mild and pleasant, with a slight chill in the mornings and evenings.

Getting there & around

• Air — Hosapete (Hospet) Junction is the rail head, about 13 km away, and where most visitors stay. Jindal Vijayanagar airport at Vidyanagar is closest, roughly 40 minutes
• Auto/Rickshaw — Hubballi is an alternative at about 165 km. Bengaluru is around 350 km and Hyderabad around 370 km. NOTE: your page lists cycle-rickshaws as a common way to get around a boulder landscape.
• Walking — Walking, bicycle, scooter and auto. A coracle crosses the Tungabhadra to Virupapur Gadde and Anegundi. Hampi is a strict plastic-free zone.

Before you go

• This is a 4,000-hectare landscape, not a monument - two days minimum, and a guide or a good map. The Ranga Mantapa's musical pillars can be seen but not entered or struck. Days are hot and the granite holds heat
• go early. And Virupaksha is an active temple with an uninterrupted history from the 7th century, not a ruin.
