Kurukshetra, like most of North India, experiences a hot and dry summer, with temperatures soaring during the peak summer months. The monsoon season brings relief from the heat, with heavy rainfall typically occurring from July to September, making the post-monsoon period pleasant and ideal for sightseeing.

Before you go

• The Gita Mahotsav window in late November to mid-December is when the town is at its fullest and also at its best. Jyotisar's light and sound show is an evening fixture and needs its timing checked before you build a day around it. And Kurukshetra is a landscape - the 48-kos system means the sites are spread
• not walkable.
