History at a glance

1. Mythological
   During the Samudra Manthan, drops of Amrit fall at four places on earth — Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik — sanctifying the Godavari and the ground around Ramkund and Trimbakeshwar.
2. Mythological
   Sage Gautam is held to have brought Ganga to Trimbakeshwar through penance to Shiva, giving the Godavari its source at Kushavarta.
3. Ramayana
   Rama, Sita and Lakshmana spend part of the fourteen-year exile at Panchavati. Rama is held to have bathed at Ramkund.
4. 2015
   The previous Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha is held. Wikipedia lists an official state website for it.
5. Announced
   The Maharashtra Government announces the Simhastha schedule in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister alongside saints from 13 Akharas.
6. 31 OCTOBER 2026
   The Simhastha officially opens with dhwajarohan — flag hoisting — at Trimbakeshwar, Ramkund and Panchavati.
7. 2 Aug, 31 Aug, 11-12 Sep 2027
   The three Amrit Snan days, when the 13 Akharas lead processions to the water.
8. 24 July 2027 OR 2028
   The Simhastha concludes with flag lowering.
