Puducherry's climate is generally hot and humid during the summer months, with a brief respite during the monsoon season that brings heavy rain from July to September. The winters are mild and pleasant, with a dry and cool climate from December to February.

Getting there & around

• Air — The nearest major airport is Chennai, about 150 km north
• Air — Puducherry has a small airport with limited services. NH-32, the former NH-45A, is the road link. NOTE: your page cites NH-66, which is the west-coast highway and does not serve Puducherry, and says the city is connected to Kerala, which is only true of the Mahe enclave.

Before you go

• The Ashram and Auroville are living communities, not attractions - the Ashram main building expects silence and the Samadhi is a place of meditation. Matrimandir's inner chamber requires advance booking and is not available on a walk-up basis
• the viewing point is. And Auroville is a 20 sq km township, not a building: going for an hour to see one dome misses what it is.
