Churches and Convents of Goa

Old Goa is now largely an archaeological site and open-air museum, though several churches remain in active worship.

A serial UNESCO World Heritage property of seven monuments at Old Goa, inscribed 1986 under criteria (ii), (iv) and (vi), reference 234. The former capital of the Portuguese Indies, called the Rome of the Orient. UNESCO describes the ensemble as illustrating the evangelisation of Asia and as influential in spreading Manueline, Mannerist and Baroque forms across the continent.
